Distance Learning
Ten years ago, Dr. Ann Graber accepted the responsibility of organizing
and directing the distance learning opportunites of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy. Providing an
educational experience of the finest quality, Dr. Graber has taught the
Institute’s courses to students in Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil,
Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany, India, Malta, Norway,
Serbia, Scotland, South Africa and the USA. Seventy-seven have
completed the Introduction to Logotherapy course, 52 completed the
Intermediate “A” course by Distance Learning, others completed
additional Intermediate and Advanced training on-site, and Dr. Graber
supervised 13 candidates who successfully completed the Diplomate in
Logotherapy. In order to pursue other areas of interest, Dr. Graber has
resigned as Director of the Distance Learning effective July 1, 2005.
At the June Board of Directors meeting, Dr. George E. Rice was
appointed to succeed Dr. Graber as the Director of Distance Learning.
In Finland, Professor Irmeli Sjolie had 25 students in
Helsinski and 12 in Tampere who will complete the Institute’s Academic
Associate in Logotherapy credential in May 2005. Institute faculty
member Marianne da Silvo Prado of Brazil and Finland is teaching two
Logoart courses to a total of 28 students in Helsinki, and will start a
third course in Vaasa in 2005. Incorporating concepts of art
therapy, the Logoart course consists of 320 hours of lectures followed
by application of therapy, culminating in a major demonstration project
with completion of requirements scheduled for 2006.
The Center for Applied Psychology of the University of South Africa and
the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy have completed formal
arrangements to become affiliate institutes with credentials granted on
the basis of full reciprocity. All requirements of the Viktor Frankl
Institute’s Board have been met insofar as faculty, curriculum, and
related academic standards. These include, but are not limited to, all
standards required by the American Psychological Association for the
Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy which is an approved provider of
Continuing Education by APA. On-site supervision for the newest
affiliate institute are Teria Shantall, Ph.D., Cora Moore, PhD, and
